It is rated at a maximum charging voltage of 90V. For lithium batteries, it is intelligent with 4 steps charging including pre-charge, CC, CV and Floating or cut off. A smart battery can measure voltage and current to determine its state of charge, and can even impose its own algorithm on the charger by sending CAN commands to it. This is referred to as Level 2 communication. Level 3 communication is more advanced and a hybrid type. Most battery chargers are able to communicate with a smart battery in some way by means of the CAN bus. Some have a built-in CAN chip, while others use externally mounted CAN modules. The ability to communicate with the smart battery via CAN can help prevent damage to the battery or charger by overcharging, undercharging and improper maintenance. It can also indicate when the battery is deteriorating and needs to be replaced.

CAN-based systems are very versatile and can be utilized in numerous applications, such as heavy duty equipment like bulk material transport trucks. 

The CAN Bus Send and CAN Bus Receive components can be found in the Communication/CAN Bus tab of the HIL device library browser. The CAN controllers' baud rate and execution rate can be configured using these two components. CAN Bus Termination is not enabled by default and must be enabled by adding 120 Ohm termination resistors to each of the CAN Bus wires connected to the CAN Controller.
